INTRODUCTION

As financial crimes grow increasingly sophisticated across the East African Community (EAC), public sector institutions face unprecedented pressure to move beyond mere prosecution and aggressively pursue the tracing, freezing, and repatriation of illicit assets. This intensive course is specifically designed to equip legal, investigative, and audit professionals with actionable frameworks to close enforcement loopholes and maximize recovery rates.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The curriculum steps away from abstract theory to focus entirely on high-impact, practical litigation strategies aligned with regional mechanisms like Asset Recovery Inter- Agency Network (ARIN-EA) and Eastern and Southern African Anti- Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG).

At the end of the training participants will master:

      i.         Advanced Asset Tracing

Leveraging financial intelligence, tracking multi-jurisdictional shell companies, and parsing complex transaction trails.

  1. Pre-Trial Trapping Measures

Utilizing urgent non-conviction-based asset forfeiture, Mareva injunctions (freezing orders), and Anton Piller (search) orders effectively.

  1. Litigation Mastery

Overcoming common evidentiary hurdles in economic crime courts and managing cross-border mutual legal assistance (MLA) requests.

  1. Managing Recovered Assets

Best practices in the preservation, administration, and disposal of seized high-value assets to prevent depreciation.
