Course Programme
ABOUT THE COURSE
An expanded universe of job and other opportunities for Advocates has seen many lawyers venture into varied filed either immediately after signing the roll of Advocates or at some point in the course of their legal career. Such areas include working as State counsel with the
Office of the Attorney General, as Prosecution Counsel with the Director of Public Prosecution, or as Counsel with Independent Constitutional Commissions or State Agencies.
Others join the Judiciary and serve dutifully as Magistrates until retirement or until they exit the Judiciary voluntarily to set up their private Legal practice.
There are those who have been in Academia for a while in local and international universities, and during these engagements have not been in day to day legal practice, and lawyers who join International agencies such as the UNHCR and their tour of duty takes them to varied countries and geographical areas.
Having in mind that once a lawyer one is always a lawyer, the Advocates mentioned above at one time or another find the need to resume private practice. Because of the specialised fields they have been serving in previously, they find need to refresh practical knowledge on other areas of legal practice that they have not been involved in on a day to day basis.
The Course therefore had the objective of building the capacity of Advocates who intend to start new law firms or who are transitioning back into Legal practice, to enable them handle diverse briefs they might receive as they start off or resume conventional legal practice.
