ABOUT THE COURSE

The Legal Aspects in Transport and Logistics Course is relevant for those who intend to refresh and upgrade their knowledge and skills to carry out management and other support roles of transport in organisations, both private and public. The objective of the course is to equip the participant with the practical skills to understand the fundamental areas of compliance with regard to road transport, and how to optimise on the resources in the organization to implement day to day an efficient transport and logistics system.

 

The participant will learn about the legal and regulatory framework for transport in Kenya, the meeting point between the Public Officer Ethics Act and the Public Service (Values and Principles) Act; Transport and Logistics processes; refresh knowledge on the Traffic Act and basic motor vehicle mechanics; Court processes in Traffic and Insurance cases and learn about effective management of transport and logistics including use of technology. The Course will have many sessions devoted to practical activities.

            

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the Course the participant will be equipped to—

(a) Outline the legal and regulatory framework for motor vehicle Transport in Kenya. Including the role of the GVCU (Government Vehicle Check Unit)

(b) Apply to their day to day roles as officers in a transport and logistics function the requirements of the various laws applicable to logistics officers both in  the private and public sector.

(c) Address Human resource issues relating to drivers including hiring and WIBA 

(d) Identify and attend to preventive maintenance of fleets

(e) Implement effective fleet management including using technology

(f) Manage risks, compliance with the highway code and address accidents and civil suits arising from the Insurance (Motor Vehicle Third Party Risks) claims.

INTENDED OUTCOMES

It is expected that at the end of the course a participant should be able to serve effectively in a transport and logistics function in their organisations.

TRAINERS

The School has assembled a team of experienced trainers, with knowledge and experience in Law, Traffic enforcement, Transport Regulation and Public Service management.

 

CERTIFICATION

A participant who attends the entire course will receive a Certificate of Participation.

COURSE FEES

Kshs. 90,000/- inclusive of VAT and registration fee for participants from East Africa. Participants from outside East Africa will pay USD 1,000. The fee covers tuition fees, course materials, stationery, lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments.  Participants will need to make their own arrangements for transport to the venue and accommodation.

IMPORTANT NOTE

(a)   Where a person who has registered for the course pulls out within 7 days to the date of training, the School shall deduct a sum not exceeding 25% of the tuition fee to cover administrative expenses of the School;

(b)  Much as we have confidence of attaining quorum for this course, we wish to caution that the course will proceed only upon a minimum of 20 persons registering, hence a person should verify this position at least 14 days before the training starts. The course may be rescheduled if need be.
